Secret Diaries of A Film Addict
Secret Diaries of A Film Addict
As I learned in my interview with Kent Jones, a member of the selection committee for the 46th New York Film Festival, trying to make connections is a difficult and often fraudulent task. The 24 to 26 films that make up the selection each year are there for one reason—they are simply the best. Sure one could try and string them together in a narrative, but why force a narrative?
NYFF 46 is an international affair indeed. From the inner city of Paris, to the streets of Lebanon. From the outskirts of China to the hills of Bolivia. Although there are a few American directors, only 7 of the main selection are truly from the United States. NYFF is proud to make the United States premiere for many of these films, sometimes launching them into great success stories.
As for my own story, I am still fighting for press credentials, still paying my own way in, and (as of now) still trying to buy tickets for Steven Soderbergh’s Che. Balanced between three other lives of my own, NYFF takes priority and it is sure to be a great festival.
